Safeguarding National Unity : Cradle Of Army-Nation Synergy

Through the creation of vigilante groups in restive areas, defence and security forces and the public have shared vital intelligence information to silence common enemies of the Republic.

Cameroonians from all social, political and linguistic backgrounds can attest wherever they are within the national territory that the role of the Army which revolves around protecting persons and goods and ensuring the inviolability of territorial lands has been strengthened by the existing bond between the Army and the population. From the Boko Haram insurgencies in the Far North to the terrorists’ disruptions in the North West and South West Regions, coalition between deployed defence and security forces and the local population has eased the naming and shaming of the enemy and helped in the return of relative calm in some localities.
Being a peaceful and hospitable country, all and sundry would have preferred a more serene Cameroon which is more conducive to the harmonious development to which its people all aspire. Regrettably, it increasingly finds itself in the midst of wrangling either within or without.  Remaining united as one people under one country and leader has given it the needed force to almost always stand the test of time. Crisis across the country and the manner in which the population and the defence and security forces have partnered to prevail over trials are fruits of Army-population symbiosis. Their unity has produced unrivaled strength!
The setting up of vigilante groups by the local population, through which they monitor their localities and report suspected individuals and actions to the forces of law and order have secured territorial integrity and triggered the gradual return of peace in the country’s crisis-hit areas.  The populations of the Far North, North West and South West regions can testify.
This explains why President Paul Biya, guarantor of the country’s constitution and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, said during the graduation ceremony of the 35th batch of EMIA, “our army would not have been so efficient without the backing and support of a united and close-nit Cameroonian people, for, while the army is the shield of the Nation, the Nation is the granite bedrock on which the army rests. Hailing from all the regions of Cameroon, our soldiers also have always enjoyed the unanimous support of our people, from   the South, North, East or West.” Logically, it is this synergy that as proud, united, mutually-supportive, and courageous people, Cameroonians have always found the ability to face every threat and meet every challenge. An inspiring interwoven union showcasing strength in unity!
Little wonder the Head of State ...
