Akum-Awing-Galim Road : Construction Of First Phase Towards Completion

When the entire 44 kilometers road must have been completed, it will be the second access way to the North West Regional capital Bamenda from the West Region.


North West Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique on May 25, 2023 undertook a technical visit to assess progress of the construction work on the Akum Mile 11-Awing – Galim road project. The road project is executed within the framework of the specific convention the Ministry of Public Works signed with the North West Development Authority (MIDENO) last year to rehabilitate the 44 kilometers road that starts from Mile 11 Akum in the intersection of National Road No. 6 Bamenda- Babadjou passing through Awing Village in Santa Subdivision in Mezam Division of the North West Region to Galim in Bamboutos Division of the West Region.
Governor Lele Lafrique who is the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the road project evaluated work done in the first phase of the project that covers 26 kilometers and consists essentially of the earth movement to render the road passable.  The North West Regional Delegate of Public Works, Ngwainbi Paul Ayeah, disclosed in Awing where the first phase ends at the river that is the boundary between Santa Subdivision in the North West and Galim in the West Region that after six months of work, over 80 per cent of the project has been executed.  He further disclosed that the entire project is programmed to take three years. The first phase being the construction from Akum Mile 11 to Awing, the second phase digging of the road to Galim and the third phase is the construction of all engineering and hydraulic structures.
