HIV Prevalence : Truck Drivers, Still A Vulnerable Group

This was revealed at the end of the second phase of the Moto Action Cameroon HIV/AIDS programme yesterday, May 30, 2023 in Yaounde.

Moto Action Cameroon, whose mission is to implement HIV/AIDS prevention, awareness-raising, solidarity programmes and activities among vulnerable populations in Cameroon have underlined that truck drivers are still a vulnerable group to HIV. Hence, they need more special programmes to address their problems. This was made known yesterday, May 30, 2023 in Yaounde as facilitators presented the results of the "MOVIHCAM Health on the Road (MHR)" project implemented in four towns of the country. Financial partners and representatives from different ministerial departments attended the gathering.
According to the President of Moto Action France and Co-founder of Moto action Cameroon, Eric Drury, the gathering, which marks an end to the second phase of the project was an opportunity to indicate the need for more funds to continue with the project and extend it to all the regions in the country. “We continue to look for funding and partners to continue with the project and follow up those with HIV towards the direction of resources and social-economic care,” Eric Drury noted.
One of the Co-founders of Moto-Action Cameroon, Manga Yves Marie said after several health sensitisation campaigns in the town of Bertoua, Kribi, Bafoussam and Douala, a mobile health truck clinic was placed at two truck parks in the town of Douala and Bertoua. The target was the vulnerable population particularly those in the mobility sector and the long distance drivers. In order to combat stigmatisation and psychosocial banners of access to HIV/AIDS, the programme extended its preventive healthcare to a global offer of multi-pathology diagnosis (HIV, STIs, malaria, tuberculosis, diabetes, hypertension and visual acuity).
