Chefs’ Dinner : “Achu Soup” On The Spotlight

The second edition to promote traditional gastronomy in the country ended last Thursday June 7, 2023 in the presence of several members of government.

The Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella has lauded actors in the culinary art for their tireless contribution to the promotion of Cameroonian food which is an essential link in the tourism chain in the country. He was speaking particularly to the brain behind the idea “Chefs' Dinner”, Marie Therese Atezzoa, last Thursday June 7, 2023 in Yaounde. This was during a live cooking show and eating session to grace the second edition of the “Chefs Dinner” event at the esplanade of the National Museum. Events were organised under the theme, “vulnerability of the culinary professions", as prelude to the festival of the flavours of Cameroon and the world which will be held in November 2023.
This year’s edition of the Chefs’ Dinner honoured a traditional Cameroonian dish: "Taro”- Achu soup from the grass field socio-cultural area. Lejeune Mbella Mbella said the meal has the merit of being shared by peoples of the English-speaking and French-speaking parts of the country. This according to him is proof of the common identities Cameroonians share, an identity conveyed through its cuisine. While noting that the event was honouring the Republic of Italy with its rich cuisine, it was an opportunity for the Minister of External Relations to thank all the heads of the diplomatic missions present at the event for their actions in favour of the mutually-beneficial reinforcement of cooperation between Cameroon in general, and for their involvement as well as effective participation in the activities which contribute in enhancing the gastronomy sector in Cameroon. This was further reinforced by the Ambassador of Italy to Cameroon, Filippo Scammacca Del Murgo, in his speech during the dinner.
