ASMAC At 50 : Pioneer Student Offers Books To Institution

As the Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC) prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary, one of the pioneer students of the institution, Shey Peter Mabu, who is Deputy General Manager of the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation (SOPECAM), has donated three of his publications to the institution. This was during an open-door day reserved for the Publishing and Graphics Arts Department last Friday June 9, 2023. 
The books, Cleansing the Queen and its French version-La Purification D’Une Reine, and Communicating in Standard English, Dr Peter Mabu said, were meant for the library of ASMAC. The books were published by the Corporation in which he serves as Deputy General Manager. Dr Peter Mabu used the event to recall the genesis of the school when it started in 1970 as the International Higher School of Journalism with only 25 students among whom 15 Cameroonians, three of whom were Anglophones. At that time, the school offered courses in Journalism only. But now, there are several other departments such as Corporate Communication, Publishing and Graphic Arts, Advertisement and Documentation in addition to Journalism.  Fifty years after, Dr Peter Mabu said he was at the school premises with pride, to appreciate what he learned from the school which enabled him to proceed for further studies in the United Kingdom where he studied in the Universities of Wales, Cardiff and Oxford for Master of Philosophy and a PhD.
