Cameroon-Uruguay : Ratifying Cooperation Agreement Underway

In line with the country's policy of diversification of international partners in Latin America, External Relations Minister explained other benefits to lawmakers on June 12, 2023.

A bill to authorize the President of the Republic to ratify the framework cooperation agreement between Cameroon and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, signed in Montevideo on June 17, 2022 has been examined by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.  External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella while defending the bill before the Emmanuel Bamni-led Committee on June 12, 2023 highlighted various benefits for Cameroon should the legal instrument be ratified. 
Cameroon and Uruguay formalised diplomatic relations at the United Nations headquarters in New York on December 17, 2017 through a joint communique and the agreement sets the general framework for a multidimensional partnership between the two countries in the economic, commercial, social, cultural, scientific and technical fields, as well as in other areas of common interest. The objective of the bilateral agreement is to promote investment projects, encourage cooperation in all areas, and exchange as well as share experiences in various fields of strategic partnerships. 
Ratifying the agreement, External Relations Minister explained, will thus pave the way for negotiations leading to the signing of specific partnership agreements in various sectors such as agriculture, industry, tourism, culture, sports and its related activities, including training, sports medicine, but also...
