Lifesaving Projects : Beneficiaries Reaping Fruits

Teenage mothers are now startups and Livanda community now enjoys portable water.

At Bakweri Town-Buea Office of TeenAlive Association on Friday June 16, 2023, its Executive Director, Dr. Doreen Binain Mbain, showcased how they are giving hope to teenage mothers. Two teenage mother clubs were set up in Liongo and Tole Villages which benefitted 103 teenage mothers (IDPs, hosts and returnees.) They were trained in the production of groundnut sweet, beads design which helped the teenage mothers to be startups in income-generating activities for themselves. TeenAlive Association pointed out it has assisted in the procurement of birth certificates to 50 conflict affected children of teenage mothers, obtained birth certificates to affected 50 teenage mothers and caused the procurement of national identity cards to 50 conflict affected teenage mothers and provided comprehensive sex education to 600 pupils and their teachers in schools. They have also sensitised 2,000 community members on preventing gender-based violence. One of the beneficiary of the project, 18-year-old Kuma Beltine whose child is three-year-old said the project has changed her life for good. 
In Livanda Village of Limbe I Subdivision, portable water now flows and community members said it has helped in preventing a repeat of cholera which dealt with the community last year. The water project rehabilitated by Environment Protection and Development Association (EPDA) has two stand taps with each having two tap heads and catchment. Simo Ngamei Beautrice, community member, explained how costly and stressful it were for them to fetch portable water from other neigbourhoods.
