National Assembly : Defence Cooperation Bill Tabled

Members of Parliament have received the draft document which authorises the President of the Republic to ratify the defence cooperation agreement between the government of Cameroon and the government of the People's Republic of Algeria, signed in Algiers on July 31, 2021. This was during a plenary sitting chaired by the Senior Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Hilarion Etong on June 16, 2023. The said bill was deemed admissible at the Chairman's Conference presided at by the Speaker of House, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril. 
Explanatory notes of the Agreement indicate that it was concluded for a period of 10 years, renewable by tacit agreement for an additional year and contains ten main points in which both parties agreed to strengthen their cooperation ties. Main areas of cooperation include the establishment and maintenance of contacts between the ministries in charge of defence, counter-terrorism, sharing of experiences and information of mutual interest, as well as training, procurement of military equipment and armaments, and support in terms of the requisite spare parts and other supplies for their operation, maintenance and repair, and participating in military exercise as observers. Other cooperation spheres are in military health and military geography, hosting and participating in symposia and conferences organised by either party, and sports, cultural and artistic activities.
