Assisting Refugees, Vulnerable Groups : First Lady’s Humanitarian Actions Highlighted

A colloquium held yesterday June 19, 2023 at the Ministry of External Relations.

As part of activities marking the commemoration of the 23 edition of the World Refugee Day, a colloquium was yesterday June 19, 2023 organised at the Ministry of External Relations to highlight Cameroon’s efforts in the management of refugees. Placed under the theme “Humanitarian and Diplomatic Actions of the First Lady of Cameroon,” it was presided at by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Oumarou Chinmoun on behalf of Minister Mbella Mbella. In attendance were members of the diplomatic corps led by the Dean, representatives of UN Agencies headed by the Resident Coordinator, the Circle of Friends of Cameroon (CERAC) and various humanitarian structures of the First Lady, Chantal Biya. Thematic reflections at the colloquium were moderated by Prof. Jean Emmanuel Pondi, an expert in international relations and Rector of the ICT University. 
The Minister Plenipotentiary, Oumarou Chinmoun in his preliminary statement said the colloquium holding at the Ministry of External Relations is indicative that the First Lady pays tribute and recognises the support of the Ministry in the proper management of refugees in Cameroon. He noted that the day is an opportunity to carryout sensitisation on the management of refugees by stakeholders, take stock of progress made and reflect on how to best overcome challenges. “Cameroon, noted for its solidarity and hospitality, is host to thousands of refugees from several countries. It is to this effect that the First Lady embarked on humanitarian actions to help improve their living conditions. In 2008 and 2015, she was named Goodwill Ambassador for UNESCO and UNAIDS respectively,” he stated, adding that, it is her way of contributing to enhancing Cameroon...
