2023 African Boxing Championships : New Dates Known

The competition will now hold from July 25 to August 6, 2023 in Yaounde with an increase in prize money announced.

The 2023 African Boxing Championships will now hold from July 25 to August 6, 2023 in Yaounde, Cameroon. This was one of the major decisions taken on June 14, 2023 at the online meeting of the African Boxing Confederation(AFBC) Board of Directors, which was also attended by Mr Umar Kremlev, President of the International Boxing Association (IBA). It should be recalled that the President of the African Boxing Confederation, Cameroon’s Bertrand Mendouga had announced the postponement of the championship earlier scheduled for 13 to 26 June 2023 in Yaounde, stating that it follows the decision of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee recommending its General Assembly to withdraw the IBA from the Olympic movement.
Apart from the decision to move the championship to July, information made public on the official website of AFBC reveals that the total prize money for the medallists at the African Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships will be doubled, rising from $500,000 last year in Maputo to $1,000,000 this year in Yaounde.
