Senate : Two Bills Adopted

The plenary sitting was chaired by the Senate President, Marcel Niat Njifenji on June 23, 2023.

The bill to authorise the President of the Republic to ratify the framework coope ration agreement between Cameroon and Uruguay, signed in Montevideo on June 17, 2022 and the bill to authorise the President of the Republic to ratify the air transport services agreement between Cameroon and Algeria, signed on February 24, 2021, have been adopted at the Senate. The two legal instruments were adopted during a general debate plenary sitting chaired by the Senate President, Marcel Niat Njifenji on June 23, 2023. The Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu and the Minister of Transport, Ernest Ngalle Bibehe, respectively defended and provided more clarifications to lawmakers on the need for the ratification of the two legal documents. The first bill to be adopted, Minister Mbayu justified, is in line with Cameroon’s policy of diversifying international partners in Latin America, besides Brazil and Argentina. With Uruguay’s rich experience in the agricultural and tourism sectors, Minister Mbayu said Cameroon will gain such know-how and use in the realisation of its National Development Strategy. “The ratification of this legal instrument will thus pave the way for negotiations leading to the signing of specific partnership agreements in various sectors such as agriculture, industry, tourism, culture, sport and its related activities, including training, sports medicine and parliamentary cooperation,” he stated.
