Volunteerism: Youths Discuss Ways To Transform Lives

 An African Regional meeting of the Canadian volunteerism organisation is on-going in Yaounde.

Reducing poverty and inequality through the efforts of highly skilled volunteers, collaborative partnership and compassionate donors is the reason why youths from some six African countries notably from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Benin are currently meeting in Yaounde. This is within the Canadian volunteerism organisation; CUSO International, to discuss ways on how to harmonise volunteerism programmes for the development of Africa and beyond. While opening the workshop, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, reiterated the pertinent role volunteerism plays in the development of any country.
The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education lauded the holding of the four-day meeting in Yaounde as well as the support his ministry is receiving from CUSO International within the platform of developing a volunteerism programme in the country. Mounouna Foutsou said this year; his ministry will finalise and validate its national programme of volunteerism thanks to foreign partners. This is why the Minister added that the workshop is of upmost importance to youths in the country as it will help youths in Cameroon to learn from others who already have an ongoing volunteerism programme for this is vital for the development of youth’s multipurpose centres in the country.
