Designating a New Fon : Esu Awaits the Voice “Nstu”/Queen Mothers

The caretaker committee of ECDA was in Douala on June 17 to enlighten their population about the situation in the village.


The population of Esu village in Menchum Division of the North West Region of Cameroon have been called upon to be calm while they await to hear from the “Nstu”, Queen mothers, and the chief of the various villages that make up the kingdom. This call was made in Douala on June 17 by the caretaker committee of the Esu people in Douala. Ever since the paramount ruler of Esu Kum Achou Kowzuh Albert was murdered by unknown gunmen in March 2022, the throne of Esu has been empty, and the people have been mourning since then.
"Our King was murdered, this alone is defiling to our land. According to our tradition and customs, a King does not see a dead body, but he saw his wife killed before his own eyes, he has not yet transitioned. From what we know, the ancestors have not accepted his spirit yet. When he shows himself to them, they see him with wounds and turn their backs on him. Until our ancestors give a headway, we can't enthrone a new King", explained the chairman of the caretaker committee of the Esu Cultural and Development Association-ECDA, Rev. Dr. Mih Clement.
The representative of the Fon of Esu in Littoral and South West Region, Kah Blasus Bin, said the chieftaincy institution, selection and enthronement of a King is under the jurisdiction of three traditional institutions, which are the “Nstu” Kingmakers, Queen Mothers and notables.
