Festi Foot Y’Ongola : Third Edition Takes Off

The official opening ceremony took place at the Stade Malien in Anguissa on Saturday July 1, 2023.

The Stade Mbida Minkoulou Alphonse in Anguissa, Yaounde, popularly known as Stade Malien in the Yaounde V Subdivision was the venue of the kick off of the third edition of the holiday football championship called ‘Festi Foot Y’Ongola’. Organised by the Yaounde City Council, the competition brought together teams from the seven Subdivisions in the Mfoundi Division. This year’s edition of the holiday championship will run till August 26, 2023. It was the second time the Yaounde V Municipality was hosting the opening ceremony of the Festi Y’Ongola Holiday Championship after they hosted the first edition in 2021. Kick off was given by the third Deputy Mayor of the Yaounde City Council, Midjinyaoua Palalou
The opening match pitted the Yaounde V Council team against current holders Yaounde IV Council. The match was a remake of last year’s final. Supporters of both teams were seen in special corners of the stadium cheering their players. It was a grueling encounter as both sides were determined to grab the first three points of the competition. Yaounde V started off well dominating the game but squandered their scoring chances. Their domination was however short-lived as Yaounde IV equally put up a strong fight. The first half was full of missed opportunities by both teams. They separated at half time on a 0-0 score margin. The goals of the game were scored in the second half. Yaounde IV opened scores but Yaounde V equalised. At full time, the score board read 1-1. Each side went home with one point on the first playing day of the championship.
