Presidential Reconstruction Plan : Stakeholders Assess Path Covered

The first Regional Follow-up Committee meeting took place on July 14, 2023 in Bamenda.

The Regional Follow-up Committee in charge of supervising the implementation of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West Region met for the first time on Friday July 14, 2023 to assess what has been done so far and seek better ways for the implementation of the Plan.
Speaking during the opening of the meeting at the conference hall of MINEPAT in Bamenda, the Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, who doubles as the President of the Regional Follow-up Committee, said “the Presidential Plan is real and on-going.” He said the Plan is an off-shoot from the Major National Dialogue to foster the speedy economic recovery of the crisis-hit English speaking regions. 
The meeting consisted of presentations from the National Coordinator, Motuba Tamanjong Obasse, who disclosed that the Plan is being implemented in three phases, namely; recovery, reconstruction and development and based on three pillars which are the promotion of social cohesion, infrastructural reconstruction and boosting the local economy.
The UNDP Regional Coordinator for the North West, implementing partner of the Plan, gave a litany of projects which had been carried out already, much to the amazement of the public hitherto largely unaware about the development of the Plan. Mary Nyuyimi however frowned at the attitude of some Mayors who were not cooperating. However, deliberations focused on how to overcome challenges faced in the implementation of the Plan.
