Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference : Legislators Visit Tourist Site In Nyom

The mining site where durable tiles are being fabricated thrilled the legislators on July 21, 2023.

On the side-lines of the 18th Commonwealth Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference for the Africa Region that concluded in Cameroon on July 20, 2023, legislators of the get-together visited the Gaoda tourist site in Nyom, Centre Region. The delegation led by the Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the Conference and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Cameroon, Hon. Mary Muyali Meboka had the objective of presenting some potentials of Cameroon to the guests. This, she explains, opens up investment and partnership opportunities between Cameroon and the 21 African countries that participated in the general debates of the conference. The area visited on July 21, 2023 is a mining site where durable tiles are fabricated and sold in the local market for the price range of FCFA 12,500 to FCFA 30, 000 depending on the quality. The raw material used is stones. With a capacity of producing thousands of tons per day, the site of the Chinese enterprise Gaoda Investment Trading Sarl has the objective of reducing Cameroon’s dependence on the foreign market and make readily available construction materials for locals.
After visiting the site which employs more than a hundred people and produces several varieties of tiles, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Botswana, Rt. Hon. Pono Pearson Patson Moatlhodi, exclaimed “Cameroon indeed has enormous potentials. The quality of tiles produced are wonderful. My eyes are impressed. I leave Cameroon with beautiful memories of a country that has enormous potentials.”
