Commonwealth Local Government Forum Cameroon Hosts : West, Central Africa Meeting

It shall hold from July 25 to 27, 2023 under the theme, “Building Back Better: Examining Social and Economic Strategies to Strengthen Resilience in West and Central Africa.”

The regional conference of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) for West and Central Africa for 2023 takes place in Cameroon from July 25-27, 2023. It is hosted by the Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development and the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC). The forum brings together institutions charged with local development and supports the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing local economic development, strengthening diversity and inclusive participation in local government election processes. The theme for the regional meeting is “Building Back Better: Examining Social and Economic Strategies to Strengthen Resilience in West and Central Africa.” Its objective is to enable members to share experiences in strengthening resilience at the local government level. Participants will also explore the role of local government in Post Covid-19 recovery and agree on key priorities for future programming and strategies, and prepare for a common front for the Commonwealth Local Government Forum global conference which is to take place in Rwanda in November 2023. To this end, areas of discussion during the Yaounde conclave will include, opportunities to diversity local government resources through innovative finance, strengthening social cohesion, the role of government in promoting healthy cities, and mitigating the impacts of climate change in West Africa.
