Public Independent Conciliator : Peace Caravan Intensified In NW

This is within the framework of the on-going sensitisation tour of all the Councils in the North West Region.

After Wum, Mbengwi, Fundong and Ndop, the Public Independent Conciliator for the North West was on August 10 in the Bamenda City Council in continuation of the on-going sensitisation mission to all the 35 Councils of the Region. It was the same scenario like in previous stops with the City Mayor Paul Achobong in his welcome address calling on the population to be attentive and participate actively in the meeting. Then the Public Independent Conciliator, Tamfu Simon Fai, repeated the principle of the PIC’s role as a watchdog, advocate and arbiter between users and institutions. This was followed by a presentation of the law governing the functioning of Councils by a Research Officer at the Office of the PIC, Ndi Nelson as well as a presentation on the procedure followed in the management of complaints by Dr Alfred Wuku Kudi. A question and answer session concluded deliberations.
The PIC said they had had meetings with Divisional Officers, Mayors and community actors but the information didn’t get down to the grassroots, hence the reason for the sensitisation tour.
Tamfu Simon said PIC was an offshoot of the Major National Dialogue which came along with the creation of the Special Status for the North West and South West Regions. He said the institution was created to promote good governance in Councils, uphold good work ethics and encouraging participatory development while fighting against discrimination, marginalisation and corruption.
