North West : New Measures Towards School Resumption

They were adopted during the Regional Coordination Security meeting on August 24, 2023.

Fresh disciplinary and security measures have been adopted towards the successful resumption of schools in the North West Region. The measures were adopted during the Regional Coordination Security meeting chaired by the Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, regrouping the various Regional Delegates, Senior Divisional Officers and top security officials. The meeting took place on August 24, 2023 at the conference hall of the Regional Delegation of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) in Bamenda. 
The Governor of the North West, Adolphe Lele Lafrique said though relative calm has returned, special measures according the specificities of each area, have been taken to ensure the security of teachers and students. He promised that sanctions will be meted out not only to teachers who fail to show up at their various duty posts but also to those who protect their nonchalance. The Governor also said the fight against drug consumption in schools in going to be intensified and urged parents to send their children to school as well as discipline them. The Governor also instructed the SDO’s to clampdown on so-called community schools in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
The meeting featured presentations from the Regional Delegate of Secondary Education as well as his counterpart of Basic Education who all revealed that there has been a steady increase in the enrolment of students in schools in the North West Region coupled with an improvement of performance in public exams as depicted in the results of the FSLC, GCE &lsq...
