Child Protection : Legal Experts Update Skills

A two-day capacity building regional workshop organised by the Ministry of Justice concluded on August 25, 2023 in Bafoussam.

A two-day capacity building workshop on the protection of children in the Cameroonian criminal justice system held in Bafoussam, West Region from August 24-25, 2023.  The workshop that brought together 30 participants, including Magistrates, social affairs workers, personnel of the national Gendarmerie, Police, Penitentiary Administration, and Lawyers was being moderated by three resource persons; Atabong Angelina, Sub-director of International Cooperation in the Ministry of Justice, Fonkus Fernard of the Judicial Department of the aforementioned Ministry and Nkwele Bayard of the Ministry of Social Affairs. 
Addressing participants at both opening and closing ceremonies, the Procurer General of West Court of Appeal, Jean Bosco Essoh, representing the Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals at the ceremony, told legal practitioners and related services that handle children in criminal matters to ensure that the rights of this vulnerable population are protected. He noted that when the rights of the children are well protected in a judicial process, it gives more meaning to the entire process. He expressed optimism that stakeholders on the various front, after the two-day capacity building will put into full implementation, in favour of the children, what they acquired.  Jean Bosco  Essoh, said the fundamental rights of the children is clearly enshrined into Cameroon’s Constitution and other existing legal dispositions.
