Fight Against Drugs : Sensitisation Strategies To Tame Growing Danger

Various school are organising educative talks and campaigns on the use of illicit drugs for students.

“No to drug abuse! No to the consumption of drugs within the school campus. This high school is a smoke-free environment.” These messages and many more are pasted at the main entrance into Government Bilingual Practising High School (GBPHS) in Yaounde. This is a strategy put in place by the school administration to prevent the use of drugs amongst students. With the growing use of illicit drugs by students, public and private institutions are intensifying strategies to curb the canker worm as the 2023/2024 academic year unfolds. 
The Principal of Government Bilingual Practising High School in Yaounde, Mrs Lekunze née Hannah Enanga Ngumbah says: “The struggle to curb drugs within school premises is real. Each day the school administration comes up with new strategies to manage the situation which is becoming more disturbing.” During the school administrative meeting of yesterday, September 11, 2023 Lekunze Hannah revealed that they discussed how they can increase the number of billboards around the school premises which will carry sensitisation messages against the use of illicit drugs. 
Besides such sensitisation billboards, the Principal of GBPHS Yaounde says every Monday morning, during the general assembly meeting of students and teachers, staff from the social and counselling departments use the occasion to educate students on the negative impact drug consumption has on their educational output as well as health. Lekunze Hannah also revealed that impromptu searches of illicit drugs are carried out by social workers in various classrooms. This is to dissuade students from carrying items to school such as Tramadol 100mg and cannabis in their bags.
