Return To Constitutional Order

August 30, 2023 will forever be a memorable day in the minds of Gabonese. Hours after election officials declared that President Ali Bongo Ondimba has won a third term, military officers appeared on state TV and declared a takeover. The election results were invalidated. The borders were closed. President Ali Bongo is placed under house arrest, while his son, along with six others were also detained. After the failed democratic process in Gabon, all eyes are now focused on the military government to make public her road map. With the oath-taken exercise over, and the newly appointed Prime Minister and his Government at work, it is now time for the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) to unfold its package.
After making a U-turn by re-instating the Constitutional Council and appointing heads of Parliament and Senate including their bureau members, it is time for the military government to accelerate the process by making public the duration of the transition and the electoral calendar. It is true that from the appointments, he is gradually bringing all stakeholders on board, but this is not enough because what the people are expecting is the organization of new and hitch-free general elections that would permit them freely chose a president as well as local representatives.
