Cameroon-Nigeria Border Issues : UN Official Hails Collaboration Spirit

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, on September 29, 2023 received the Chairperson of the Mixed Commission, Leonardo Santos Simao, during which he made the remark.


Cameroon and Nigeria are two neighbouring countries that have adopted a peaceful approach to resolve their border issues. The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute granted an audience to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa and Sahel, and Chairperson of the Cameroon-Nigeria Mixed Commission, Leonardo Santos Simao, who is on a working visit in Cameroon. He was appointed in May 2023 and his visit is part of his regional familiarisation tour in the region. 
According to the UN official, he is in Cameroon for two reasons; introduce himself to the authorities of Cameroon as the new Chairperson of the Mixed Commission between Cameroon and Nigeria on border issues, and also to encourage the collaboration spirit between the two countries for choosing the peace path. “I am here to encourage and salute the good work which has been done over these 20 years and over 2,000km border stretch, and also to express my commitment and availability to work with the two countries to conclude the process. Therefore, the experience which was accumulated over the years makes that the two countries have the potentials to overcome the remaining difficulties. That is what I explained to the Prime Minister, that I am available to work with the two countries to have good results,” he said.
