Selective Sorting of Garbage : Best Ecological Project Rewarded

This was during a ceremony that took place at GBHS Joss in Douala on November 10, 2023.

 

Authorities of the Douala City Council have donated some work tools to Government Bilingual High School Joss for coming out best in the awareness and education on selective sorting of garbage in schools competition. The competition was organised by the Douala City Council in collaboration with a garbage recycling company. Some work tools as wells as a certificate were presented to the school authority on November 10, during a ceremony presided at by the 4th deputy mayor of the Douala City Council, Marie Dine Adzogo.
In recent years, the Douala City Council has been preoccupied with making the city attractive. Considering that attractiveness can only come in when the city is clean, they carried out several projects to that effect. One of such was the selective sorting of garbage competition, aims at initiating students into the notion of selectively sorting out garbage.
According to the 4th deputy mayor to the Douala City Council, they were out to sensitise the population towards green economy and it was important for the children to learn how to engage in green economy. "It is important for young people to learn how to protect the environment. We have other programmes like “Douala green city’’, which involves the planting of trees to keep Douala clean", she added.
