Elections Management : Proposals From Buea University

A Ph.D thesis to this effect was defended on November 18, 2023 by Mbamome Divine Nkendong in the Faculty of Law and Political Science.

 

Methods of improving the electoral climate in Cameroon to permit more voters get involve during national elections were examined on Saturday November 18, 2023 in the University of Buea in a Ph.D defense. The candidate, Mbamome Divine Nkendong, did his study on “Election management bodies and voter apathy: A comparative analysis of the National Elections Observatory and Elections Cameroon. He traced the various stages elections management bodies in Cameroon beginning with the Ministry of Territorial Administration, National Elections Observatory and now Elections Cameroon showing their strengths, weaknesses and how voters have been involved. He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree in Political Science in a five-man panel chaired by Professor Abangma James Arrey.
Mbamome Divine Nkendong made a comparative analysis of the defunct National Elections Observatory and Elections Cameroon. The study conducted in Yaounde and Buea made use of questionnaire, in-depth key informant interviews, and content analysis of key government policy documents. He told the panel that if people do not trust the election management and if they do not perceive meaningful differences of political parties and candidates then they are likely to stay away from it.
