Violence Against Women : Greater Training Recommended

A statement issued by the Cameroon Human Rights Commissions to mark the international day for the elimination of violence against women condemns the increasing phenomenon.

 

A situational analysis of gender-based violence in Cameroon, published on November 7, 2023 by the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family unfortunately reveals that some 52.6 per cent of women in relationships have experienced domestic or conjugal violence, one in three women has experienced physical violence with some 42 per cent of women having experienced emotional violence and 38 per cent of women have experienced sexual or physical violence.
Faced with the disturbing statistics, the Cameroon Human Rights Commission on November 25, 2023 issued a statement condemning the increasing violence against women in the society. This was in the framework of the international day for the elimination of violence against women. The same statement also recommends the government to continue with greater commitment, the implementation of all adopted strategic policies, including the National Strategy to Combat Gender-Based Violence 2022-2026, and complete the development process of the draft law against GBV launched by the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family and the draft law on the Family Code.
