Cameroon-India Relations : High Commissioner Raised To Grand Officer

External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella affixed the medal on Anindya Banerjee during a State diner offered him on November 29, 2023.


The outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Cameroon, Anindya Banerjee has been raised to the dignity of Grand Officer of the Order of Valour. The medal was conferred on him by External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella on November 29, 2023 during a State diner offered in honour of the Indian diplomat, on behalf of the President of the Republic.
A toast by Minister Mbella Mbella indicated that the personal involvement and availability of the High Commissioner since taking office in March 2022, enabled cooperation ties to undergo remarkable evolutions in various fields. Highlighting achievements of the Indian diplomat during his stay in Cameroon, the Minister cited the holding of the third session of the Cameroon-India intergovernmental consultations on August 7, 2023 and the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the death of Mahamat Gandhi.
On the economic and commercial frame, Minister Mbella Mbella noted the 20 per cent increase in the volume of trade between the two countries. Other achievements stated by External Relations Minister include the provision of lines of credit which allowed the financing of major projects in Cameroon, notably in the field of electrification, agriculture, and water supply. He also cited India’s multifaceted support in Cameroon’s emergence programme by 2035 particularly in the electrification sector with the construction of the Nkongsamba-Bafoussam, and Yaounde-Abong Mbang lines, the production of drinking water through the rehabilitation of appropriate systems and supply from the Mefou River, and the financing of agricultural innovation with the acquisition of machinery. “Therefore, as you bid farewell,...
