North West : Apostolic Nuncio Joins In Diamond Jubilee Celebration

The Archbishop Andrew Nkea of Bamenda used the occasion to speak to the consciences of those denying children of their basic rights to education.

 


The Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea Mgr Jose Avelino Bettencourt, joined students and ex-students of St Bedes College Ashing (SABECO) Kom to celebrate God's faithfulness in thanksgiving as the institution clocks 60 years.  His presence in Bamenda was highly saluted considering that he is just three weeks old in Cameroon and it is his first visit to the North West.
The Apostolic Nuncio who is the Pope's representative to Cameroon said, "I am in unity and solidarity with Pastors who are the voice of conscience, the voice of faith". He saluted the Archbishop Andrew Nkea who in his homily emphasized on the assignment of Christ to go into the world and teach the reason why SABECO is celebrating. He also said the access of teaching and learning is a fundamental human right.
St Bedes College Ashing was created in 1963 with Rev Anthony as Pioneer principal and the first students started classes in Njinikom and   later transferred to its present day site in   the Belo Valley superficially at Ashing. The institution was created as a boys’ school and later changed to a mix-sex school that we see today. The renowned institution, St Bedes College Ashing is known for its best performances in the end-of-course GCE examinations and has moulded a good number of Cameroonians who today serve the nation in various capacities.
Speaking during the ceremony in Bamenda, the Archbishop Andrew Nkea explained why the celebration took place at the Metropolitan Cathedral Bamenda rather than in its main campus at Ashing Belo.
