Cardiac Surgery : Douala General Hospital At Work

From December 1-16, about ten cardiac patients will the operated upon.

 

People suffering from cardiac malformation can now heave a sigh of relief as they can be operated upon at the Douala General Hospital for the days ahead. The 19th cardiac surgery mission with some Franco-Belgian partners is currently at the general hospital in Douala and will be carrying out surgery for patients who have undergone the necessary examinations and were programmed for surgery.
The mission that will be at the Douala General Hospital from 1-16 December, is aimed at improving the care of patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases and strengthening collaboration between the hospital and its partners in the field of quality in cardiology. The mission is made up of 19 members, including cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and biomedical engineers. It is coordinated by Professor Ngatchou William, cardiac surgeon, Northern focal point (Belgium), and Professor Kamden Félicité, adult and pediatric cardiologist, Southern focal point, Douala Regional Hospital.
According to one of the cardiac surgeons, Professor Jansens, since 2013, they have carried out heart surgery on more than 150 patients at the Douala General Hospital. He said during their two-week mission at the hospital, they would carry out surgery on about 10 patients. He added that they were also out to render the local team autonomous. He disclosed that cardiac surgery is very delicate and it was important for the local surgeons to be well trained. He was impressed with the technical aspect of the hospital and said that their relationship has been good this far.
