Decentralisation : Development Forum Opened

A one-week development forum, an initiative of the West Regional Council, has been opened in Bafoussam. The Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam presided at the opening ceremony which took place on December 11, 2023. The one-week development forum, organised within the framework of getting investors for development projects, hence improving the living conditions of the population, runs till December 17, 2023. The development plan is aimed to chart the way forward, set out strategies, make diagnoses that will help identify some of the challenges to the effective development of the region, especially in areas that fall within the competence of the Regional Council.  
While launching the ceremony, the Minister said it is his wish that at the end of the regional consultation forum, participants should be more enterprising producers and introduce proactive policies, that will make the economy more attractive. Minister Elanga Obam added that he expects to see better scope for doing good business being offered in the region. Emphasising that efforts must be made during the development forum to push forward a community growth agenda, the Minister said necessary commitment must be taken to attract investors and the implementation of projects. The Decentralisation Minister appreciated the initiative, noting that the Head of State’s decentralisation policy aimed at transferring competences to local authorities is to encourage local governance by bringing development closer to the population.
