World Civil Defence Day: Disturbing Statistics For Littoral

The disclosure was made during the celebration of the 2017 edition yesterday.

The 2017 edition of the World Civil Defence Day celebrated under the theme: “Together with Civil Defence in times of Catastrophes,” revealed some appalling figures on accident in the Littoral Region. According to officials of the Regional Delegation of Transport, about 804 accidents were registered in 2016 that led to 686 injuries and 205 dead with the highest number of dead, 129, registered in the Moungo Division. Most of the accidents, officials said, are linked to negligence, while reckless driving and poor state of roads equally are to blame. The regular deployment of control teams to travel agencies by the Transport Delegation is said to have reduced the number of accidents in the region. During the celebration that brought together students and national services in charge of civil protection including the Fire Fighting Brigade, the Governor’s Representative, Herman Tchackejong Adjota said sensitising the public on the role of civil protection is very important as it will go a long way to prevent catastrophes in their immediate environment.
