MINREX: New UNHCR Representative Received

Kouassi Lazare Etien on March 1, 2017 presented his letters of introduction.

The Minister Delegate at the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth, Chief Joseph Dion Ngute on March 1, 2017 during an audience received the letters  of introduction of the new Representative of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Cameroon , Kouassi Lazare Etien.
Speaking to the press after the audience, Kouassi Lazare said it was incumbent on him to pay courtesy calls on some government officials before undertaking his mission in Cameroon. With regards to the teething refugee problems in Cameroon, he said, the refugees are in the country thanks to the goodwill of the government. He said the UNHCR’s mission  is to assist the government tackle the predicament of the refugees , insisting that the primary responsibility of the UN body was to support the government.
