Local Government Development : MINHDU To Transfer Over 7 Billion FCFA In 2024

The figure was revealed in Yaounde on January 23, 2024 during the launch of this year’s Public Investment Budget by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, MINHDU on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 in Yaounde launched the 2024 Public Investment Budget, PIB to be transferred to local governments in the country. For what was described as “harmonious development.” The ceremony was attended in person and online by mayors, city mayors, and officials of the Ministries of Finance, Public Contracts and MINHDU.
Minister Ketcha Courtes announced that her ministry has this year allocated 7,365,000,000 FCFA as Public Investment Budget to be transferred to over 100 councils in the country. For the implementation of council projects. She stressed that the 2024 financial year is important because mayors are expected to use the opportunity to prepare their re-election in 2025. Thus, mayors must spend the funds allocated to their councils judiciously by showing the impact on the livelihoods of the people.   
The Minister regretted that some 15 council investment projects were not completed in 2023. She called for pro-activeness in awarding public contracts, prompt reporting on project execution and assurances that transferred resources are well spent.
