Local Development : Indians Propose Inter-Regional Transport System

A working session between the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon and an Indian investment company known as Hinduja Group held on January 23 to analyse the project.


The United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC) led by their President, Augustin Tamba, who doubles as the Mayor of Yaounde VII held a working session on January 23, 2024 with an Indian investment company, Hinduja Group on an inter-regional transport system which the latter is promising to the former. Within the framework of accelerating decentralisation, Mayors across Cameroon thus met with the Indians investment company led by the Director General, Amit Kimar to understand the projects and its benefits to different Councils. 
Going by the project as presented by the Country Director of Hinduja, Pravin Bawankule, it spans over a long period and comes in the form of a Build-Operate-Transfer mode, they intend to offer services in line with rapid transport buses. That is, they are proposing a complete transport solution, which starts from the production to use and maintenance of transport buses.  Hinduja Group is a company that is involved in the manufacturing of cars and also provides other services in the transport system. As a result, they are proposing to partner with Councils to facilitate transportation in cities through the said urban transport system. The Director General of Hinduja Group, said besides manufacturing and supply of cars, they also provide market solutions such as the setting up of workshops and training centres for technicians and drivers, as well as technology transfer in the system. “We are proposing a cost-effective and efficient transport system,” Amit Kimar stated. To him, they indeed to meet up with the market demands of Cameroon as concerns the requirement of buses, spare parts and manpower.
