Upcoming Political Events : Intensifying Fight Against Hate Speech

Going by the electoral calendar of Cameroon, next year 2025 will be a busy electoral period as they would be the Presidential, legislative, municipal and regional elections. In order to ensure a peaceful electoral process void of controversy, the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, according to the President, Peter Mafany Musonge, will have to intensify its peace preaching and social cohesion mission. He made the commitment while receiving New Year Wishes for 2024 from members and staff of the Commission. “We all are aware that 2024 is the eve of important programmed political events, and in this regard, we will have to step up the fight against hate speech and xenophobia. We may have to review and set new targets for the various civil society organisations that have been working with us in this area,” he stated. The President of the Commission added that he will do his utmost to ensure that these activities are carried out under the best possible conditions and with the available financial resources. Peter Mafany Musonge also urged the Bilingualism Commission to strengthen the spirit of cordiality, conviviality, cohesion and living together, in order to attain set objectives. 
For the successes recorded by the Commission, he said they have been possible thanks to the full backing of the Head of State, Paul Biya, who he said, on several occasions, has proven beyond reasonable doubt that it was right and just to give the Commission a place of choice in his agenda of making Cameron an emerging and democratic country, united in diversity.
