Bilingualism Week : Special Wednesday At Secondary Education Sector

The day, meant to promote the use of both official languages, took place between staff and the public, yesterday, January 31, 2024.

January 31, 2024. It is a special Wednesday at the Ministry of Secondary Education. At the entrance into the ministry is a message from the Inspectorate of Pedagogy in charge of Teaching and the Promotion of Bilingualism. The message reads: “Today is Wednesday! Let’s speak the other official language.” Visitors were thrilled and some exclaimed “Wow! I like the Wednesday spirit at the Ministry of Secondary Education, all civil servants of the French speaking background interact in the English language.”
The special Wednesday, according to the National Pedagogic Inspector of Bilingualism at the Ministry of Secondary Education, Adeline Fah, is aimed at promoting the practice of the two official languages at the Ministry. “Together, we make our weekly bilingualism day a reality! We make you feel at home when you knock at every door”, Adeline Fah noted. At the premises of the Ministry of Secondary Education, students from five different secondary schools in Yaounde within the special bilingual education programme could be seen interacting with staff of the Ministry. All in a bid to encourage the use of the French and English languages in the society.
Noting that each Wednesday is the usual day to practice the use of the both official languages at the Ministry of Secondary Education, Adeline Fah said the Inspectorate of Pedagogy in charge of Teaching and the Promotion of Bilingualism used the day to exhibit books of what they do to promote biling...
