NW/SW : Rescue The Suffering Masses!

It is almost getting to eight years that the peace-loving population of the North West and South West Regions have been plunged into near unbearable suffering under the weight of a bestial war. Close to eight years of no school in some localities, uneasy

Even more disturbing is the persistence on the wrong path when all is proving that what was wrong yesterday, is wrong today and will be wrong tomorrow. Innocent lives are continually being wasted and valuable property destroyed in the two restive regions. As the suffering masses keep wondering when the bestial war shall end, perpetrators rather seem thirsty for even more chaos. This leaves the milieu shaky and frightening to almost everyone.
The recent happening in Nkambe, Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region where an explosive device killed one and left over 40 wounded on February 11, 2024 during festivities marking the 58th Youth Day raises more questions than answers. Nkambe was until the unfortunate incident one of the greenest zones in the North West Region. Coming to terms with the fact that the deceased was a Form IV student and some of the injured persons have had their limps amputated, signals shattered dreams for the victims, their families and country at large. The young Cherish Lemnyuy Bonge, Form IV student of GHS Nyanji, Nkambe who perished in the explosive has already been buried and her chapter closed. Being a purely rural zone where most inhabitants are involved in agro-pastoral activities, it is clear that those who have been permanently handicapped would almost become burdens on their relatives and communities.  Disappointing how vibrant citizens with promising futures could have their dreams shattered or see themselves being transformed from assets to liabilities.
A similar incident occurred in Babungo village of Babessi Subdivision on February 14, 2024 where some of the so-called separatist fighters brutally sent away over 800 children out of the Bihai Royal College of Arts, Science and Technology (BIROCAST). It is said that over 16 staff members of the school, including a nursing mother, have since been in captivity in the bushes with heavy ransoms being asks as the pupils and students helplessly remain home. Yet, the kids were only eager to study so as to guarantee a better future.
Imagining that all these came barely days after heavy-duty equipment of a road-construction company contracted to pave the Ndu stretch of the ring road were destroyed, leaves many perplexed with the depth of destruction the war is leaving in the present and future of the population of the North West and South West Regions. At least, the Ndu section of the Bamenda Ring Road, is a key axis that links six out of seven Divisions in the North West Region. Roads are known to be vectors of development. Denying the population of this precious gift even after government has painstakingly mobilized the scarce funding is no better than shooting live and livelihood in the foot.  This is really hurting and greatly casts a dark cloud on the future of youngsters therein who aspire to live tomorrow better than today.
This has been the case ever since the genuine concerns of Common Law Lawyers and English Teachers’ Trade Unions got hijacked by lawbreakers who are destroying the very people they pretentiously set out to ‘liberate.’ In fact, all and sundry are witnesses to the atrocities committed by armed groups notably maiming, beheading, assassination of elements of the Defence and Security Forces, administrative authorities and defenceless civilians, damage of public infrastructure and buildings and burning of schools, hospitals, et al. People are tired of the unending reign of terror that they have subjected to for too long now and keep hoping for a turnaround so that they can strive to live, pursue their dreams and work to let others live.
The hope of the suffering masses is obviously on government that has the duty to safeguard territorial integrity and ensure the safety of persons and their property. So much has been done thus far ranging from the deployment of mixed troops to the crisis-stricken zones through multifaceted assistance to the affected population. However, the workers of iniquities are unbending in their bestiality. Meanwhile, it has proven clearly that in no country in the world has either the killing of defence and security officers or civilians, kidnapping, mutilation, molestation, burning, destruction of public infrastructure, prevention of children from going to school or people from going about their activities in peace ever been a source of l...
