The Commonwealth Day 2017 will be celebrated on Monday, March 13, 2017. In prelude to the event the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella launched the preparatory activities at the Ministry yesterday, March 6, 2017 in the presence of his close aides, High Commissioners of Commonwealth member countries and other senior Cameroonian dignatories.
The launching ceremony mainly consisted of hoisting the Cameroon and Commonwealth flags which the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Commonwealth, Chief Joseph Dion Ngute described as translating the partnership between Cameroon and the Commonwealth. The event was solemn, made more so by the detachments from the Police, National Gendarmerie, Military and animation by the Military Band. Besides Cameroon’s political capital Yaounde, Commonwealth activities this year will also take place in Bamenda and Buea, the capital of the two English-speaking regions, North West and South West respectively. Highlights of the weeklong activities include televised round-table conference on the celebration theme, «A peace-building Commonwealth ».
