MTN Elite One : First Phase Final Whistle

The 18th and last playing day of the competition is programmed this weekend and the results will present a clear picture of which teams will play the play-off up and down.


At the end of the 17th playing day of the ongoing MTN Elite One Championship, Canon in Group A and Stade Renard as well as Coton in Group B had already qualified for the play-offs up looking at their positions on the standings. The remaining teams that will join them as well as those that will be playing the play-off down will be known at the end of the 18th and last playing day of the group phase that is billed in stadiums across the country this weekend.
In Group A, already qualified Canon have greater chances of consolidating their lead as they play bottom-placed AS Fortuna of Mfou that are mathematically among the teams that will play the play-off down. Pressure is thus more on Canon that will want to have the bragging rights of having topped the group. Second-placed Dynamo of Douala (27points) have a strong battle against sixth-placed Union Douala (24 points). The victorious team will thus have a greater chance of playing the play-off up. Another crucial encounter will see third-placed Gazelle of Garoua (25 points) log horns against PWD of Bamenda (23 points). It is evidently a winner take all encounter and it is difficult to predict which team can win. PWD are on a tight corner and will want to do everything to safe face.
