Commonwealth Day : Week-long Activities Launched

Week-long activities marking the commemoration of the 2024 edition of the Commonwealth Day have been launched at the Ministry of External Relations. To that effect, the traditional flag hoisting ceremony was presided at by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu, in the presence of some members of government and High Commissioners of Commonwealth nations accredited to Cameroon. The theme of this year is “One Resilient Common Future,” and highlights the extensive, as well as deep-rooted networks of friendship and goodwill, by virtue of which the governments and people of the diverse family of 56 Commonwealth nations connect, and work together to address shared challenges, while promoting and achieving common goals. 
Launching the one-week activities that will take place across the ten regions, Minister Felix Mbayu said it will serve as an opportunity for Cameroon to shed more light on national development projects and aspirations that resonate with the Commonwealth Day theme and other actionable priorities of the Organisation, notably, the Commonwealth Year of the Youth 2023-24, the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and the 75th anniversary of the Commonwealth. In this light, the Minister said such activities will seek to galvanise actions for the empowerment of the youth, especially by focusing on Cameroonians who have been outstanding achievers in the Commonwealth over the years.
