Fight Against Cancer : African Broadcasting Union Launches Foundation

A fundraising ceremony to this effect took place on March 4, 2024 in Yaounde.


The African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) Foundation Against Cancer (AFAC) is born. It was officially launched in Yaounde on March 4, 2024 during a fund raising ceremony grouping some members of government and those of the diplomatic corps. 
The event was a wake-up call to everybody especially media personal on the need to raise awareness and media sensitisation against the disease which has no demographic limit. Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), Grégoire Ndjaka, said some 900 people die every two years after being diagnosed with cancer. Also in South Africa, statistics indicate that every 72 minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. The CEO of AUB said his office has thought it wise to change the narrative around cancer, by using one of its many tools, the microphone and screens. Looking around the media sphere in Cameroon, Grégoire Ndjaka said there are few reports on the real cancer situation in Africa. According to him, this is not because journalists are poorly trained, but because they consider the topic difficult and disturbing.
