Autism : Leisure Home For Children Afoot

A foundation stone to build the structure was laid by the Minister of Women’s Empowerment yesterday April 3, 2024 at the Yaounde VII Subdivision.

Children suffering from the medical condition characterised by difficulties with social interaction, communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behaviour called autism will soon have a safe haven to play and learn new skills. A home dedicated to autistic children in the country is on the way. 
In effect, the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Marie Thérése Abena Ondoa née Obama, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a leisure home for children suffering from autism. The home is situated at the Yaounde VII Subdivision, precisely at the Minkoameyos neighbourhood. The event to lay the foundation stone took place under the watchful eyes of the Minister of Social Affairs, Pauline Irène Nguene, the Mayor of the locality, Augustine Tamba and the local population. 
The Minister of Social Affairs said the home will be of utmost importance to children suffering from autism who are most of the times hidden in various homes without education and proper health care. Such a centre, Minister Pauline Irène Nguene said, will make such children feel better as they will have an opportunity to meet and play with each other. She used the occasion to salute the initiative spearheaded by the association “Handicap Sans Visage” (Faceless Disability). With the creation of such a centre, Pauline Irène Nguene said parents, who are usually ashamed of such children and hide them at home, will be able to take them to the centre to ensure they enjoy ...
