Mekontchou Rigobert Memorial Wrestling Tournament : UB Wrestling Club Are Winners

Over 100 athletes took part in the first edition of the competition that took place in Yaounde recently.

The auditorium of the National Advanced Public Works School was the venue of the first edition of the wresting tournament called ‘Mémorial Mekontchou Rigobert’ tournament recently. The competition orgnised in memory of the late former wrestling coach, Mekontchou Rigobert, brought together athletes from 17 clubs across the country. It was another opportunity for Yaounde inhabitants to watch young Cameroonians display rich talents in the sport. The competition unfolded in the senior men’s and women’s categories. The Mekountchou Memorial tournament equally served as an opportunity for university students to prepare for the University Games that will take place in Garoua from May 25 to June 2, 2024. 
At the end of the competition, Zingui Wrestling Club emerged winners in the men’s category while in the women’s competition the University of Buea Wrestling Club was the champions. The trophy for the best female wrestler went to Ikome Violet of the University of Buea wrestling club. The trophy for the best wrestler in the men’s category went to Lonken Kenne from Zingui Wrestling Club. Mbappe Eyoum from Douala Wrestling Club got the trophy for the best coach and Monkam Georges won the trophy for best official. The Fair Play trophy went to the National Advanced Public Works School Wrestling Club.
