Accelerating Decentralisation, Development : Steering Committee Evaluates Implementation Plan

The Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam presided at the first session of the Committee on May 8, 2024.


Cameroon, through the Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development, and the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, signed, on December 3, 2023 with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a project document on the acceleration and deepening of the decentralisation and development process in Cameroon. The signing of the said document came barely some moments after Cameroon adopted the National Development Strategy 2020-2030 plan on which the United Nations development aid programme is aligned. To facilitate the realisation of envisaged actions within the framework of fast-tracking the concept, a steering committee of the project to support the acceleration and deepening of decentralization and development in Cameroon was put in place under the coordination of the Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development.  To this effect, the first session was held in 2021 and basically examined the possible realisation of structural studies notably; studies on the socio-economic profiles of local authorities, financing local development, the digitalisation of training modules at the National School of Local Administration, and the production of an audit and control guide for local authorities.
On May 8, 2024, the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam was thus presiding another session of the committee, the first in the year, and exchanges focused on an exhaustive evaluation of the putting in place of the project to accelerate and deepen decentralisation and development in Cameroon, as well as outline corrective actions and aspects of improvement as the case may be.  Committee also evaluated results of the working group since its ...
