65th Series of Meetings of WIPO : Cameroon Reiterates Commitment

The country’s delegation at the gathering holding in Geneva is being led by Salomon Eheth, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Cameroon to the United Nations Office.


The 65th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) concludes today in Geneva, Switzerland. Deliberations which began on July 9 and end today July 17, 2024 at the organisation’s headquarters in Geneva are being chaired by the Director General of WIPO, Daren Tang. Cameroon is being represented at the high-level gathering that has 1,400 registered participants, 900 onsite and 500 online, by the Ambassador, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Cameroon to the United Nations Office, Salomon Eheth. 
 In his opening address, the WIPO Director General said the organisation is also a global repository of IP data and information, which is being used to gain insights into the innovation ecosystem. “Two months ago, in May, the entire WIPO community came together as one to conclude a historic new treaty after 25 years of negotiations. This, 27th, WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge has sent a strong signal that even in difficult areas with high emotions and strong differences of views, it is possible for us as a global community to arrive at consensus. The result was not just a victory for the Indigenous Peoples and local communities, and a more inclusive IP ecosystem, but also victory for multilateralism,” Daren Tang stated.  
Taking the floor when delegation leaders were given the opportunity, Salomon Eheth welcomed the visit to Cameroon of the WIPO Director General, Daren Tang from June 2-5, 2024 and took stock of the cooperation between Cameroon and this specialised agency of the United Nations, with its prospects.
