This was during discussions between the South Sudanese President, Salva Kiir and CNPC Chairman Dai Houliang, on the sideline of the China-Africa Leader’s Summit in Beijing
South Sudanese Government is explo ring alternative ways to export its oil with the construction of a pipeline to Djibouti via Ethiopia considered the main option to enhance export capabilities and support expanded extraction in Blocks 3 and 7. The information was made public on September 3, 2024, after President Salva Kiir met with Dai Houliang, Chairman of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), to discuss reforms in the oil sector, including improving production, building a new refinery, and strengthening the distribution network. According to a statement issued by the presidency, President Kiir during the meeting reaffirmed his government’s commitment to unlock the country’s oil potential and improve energy security to facilitate infrastructure projects.
