Cameroon-UNESCO : Productive Collaboration Celebrated

This was during a State diner offered in honour of the visiting UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay on September 9, 2024.

A State diner was on September 9, 2024 offered on behalf of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute in honour of the visiting Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Audrey Azoulay. She is visiting Cameroon on the occasion of the International Literacy Day. The diner was an opportunity to celebrate the fruitful collaboration between Cameroon and the United Nations agency, especially given the fact that Cameroon hosted the 58th edition of the International Literacy Day, from September 9-10, 2024 under the theme; “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Multilingual Understanding and Peace.” 
In a toast by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, representative of the Head of State, education is a vector of peace. Noting that the world in currently shaken by conflicts, the Prime Minister said authorities are putting in place measures to ensure that access to education is guaranteed and it is inclusive. He stated that in Cameroon, there are about 360 centres for the promotion of the mother tongue and linguistic centres in all the ten regions, to promote bilingualism and enable cultural harmony. The Head of Government added that measures have been taken to ensure that students, classes and schools benefit from the distance learning centre in Yaounde without discrimination. Visiting Cameroon for the second time in two years (first on February 6, 2022 during the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations organised by Cameroon) and now, the Prime Minister noted that it is an indication that the UN official puts at the top and acknowledges the excellent cooperation ties between Cameroon and UNESCO.
