Fourth Universal Period Review : Cameroon Set To Implement Recommendations

A capacity building workshop for human rights focal points took place yesterday September 11, 2024 at the Ministry of Justice.
Cameroon, under the leadership of President Paul Biya, has made the promotion and protection of human rights one of its priorities in its government policies. Besides participating in the related African system, Cameroon also respects commitments in the international system, of which is the Universal Periodic Review (UPR); an instrument created by the United Nations General Assembly in March 2006 and designed to encourage, support and develop the promotion and protection of human rights in every country. Cameroon has been subject for reviews since the first periodic review in 2008. The fourth cycle held in November 2023, during which 110 States formulated 291 recommendations relating to civil and political rights, economic, social and cultural rights as well as cross-cutting issues. An interministerial meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Head of Government held on February 22, 2024 during of which the government adopted 220 of the said recommendations. The capacity building workshop at the Ministry of Justice yesterday September 11, 2024 was thus on the implementation of the recommendations accepted by Cameroon at the end of the 4th cycle of the Universal Periodic Review.
The Minister Delegate to the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Jean de Dieu Momo, chaired the opening of the workshop on behalf of Minister Laurent Esso. He noted that the implementation of the accepted recommendations is an opportunity for Cameroon to reaffirm its credibility and its deep faith in human rights.
