U-18 AfroBasket Championships : Cameroonian Boys Into Semis

After the girls, the young basketball Lions equally picked one of the last four tickets following their 67-53 victory over Rwanda in the quarterfinals yesterday in Pretoria.

The Cameroon girl’s and boy’s teams taking part in the U-18 AfroBasket championships are stealing the show in Pretoria, South Africa. Yesterday September 12, 2024, the Cameroonian boys picked their ticket for the semi-finals of the men’s championship. They beat Rwanda 67-53 in the quarterfinals to realise this feat. Before the boys, the girls had already given joy to Cameroonian basketball fans by also picking a ticket for the semis. It was on September 11, 2024 where they pulled an upset by wining Angola 65-63 in the quarterfinals.
Yesterday’s match pitting the U-18 boys of Cameroon and those of Rwanda was full of suspense and pressure. The Cameroonians started off on a good note but later on let their opponents take the lead in the first quarter (14-16). It was in the second quarter that Cameroon amassed a huge number of points that bettered their chances of winning. They largely won the quarter 22-16 before going on break. The Cameroonian boys again dropped in the third quarter. They committed a few mistakes principally due to their youthfulness, thereby letting their opponents win (17-15). The young basketball Lions were on fire in the last quarter defending well and being very successful offensively. They won the quarter 16-4. This result clearly tells of the strength of the Cameroonians during this fourth quarter that propelled them to the merited victory.
They thus joined their female colleagues that had already celebrated success after defeating Angola to sail to the last four of the U-18 Women’s AfroBasket championship. Damaris Em...
