Fight Against Insecurity: Two New BIR Sectors Go Operational In SW

The Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) has inaugurated the Ekona and Ombe sectors to beef up the fight against insecurity in the localities and along the major highways leading to Kumba and Douala respectively
Ekona, a volatile locality along the Buea-Muyuka stretch of the Mutengene-Kumba Highway which hitherto has been an epicentre of separatist fighters terrorism operations and Ombe situated in the industrial zone along the LimbeTiko-Douala road are now permanently covered by the elite force; the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR). Construction works of the modern architectural structures coordinated by the Commander of the 6th BIR, Lt. Colonel Onana Mbarga Gilles, comprises of an administrative blocs, dormitories, refectories, toilet facilities and security post in an enclosure. The new BIR camps were inaugurated in separate ceremonies on February 7, 2025 by the Controller/Inspector General of BIR, Colonel Belinga Henri Ludwig in the presence of the Senior Divisional Officer of Fako, Viang Mekalla and respective local authorities of Muyuka and Tiko Subdivisions. To the SDO of Fako, the installation of the BIR sectors in those localities is timely given their strategic locations. Ekona, he noted, has been a precarious locality since the armed crisis erupted with acts of terrorism perpetrated in the area. Thus, the construction of the BIR camp in the localities will enable the return to complete normalcy. While expressing gratitude to the President of the Republic and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces for the constant concern in improving the working conditions of the forces, the SDO said the facilities will not only improve the working condition of the soldiers but will also ameliorate their efficiency in securing the populations along the road axis leading to Kumba-Mamfe and the TikoDouala highway, the gateway into the region.
